Video: Coldplay, “Strawberry Swing”

July 23, 2009

At some point along the path of FADER history, liking Coldplay became a shameful secret. But then the silent few became the majority, and for a few glorious months, Coldplay reigned the intra-office airways. These were known as the Ides of Martin and interns were forced to patch together colorful uniforms out of promo totebags and march through the hallways with the editors on their shoulders singing all the words to Viva La Vida. The editors thought about what Chris Martin and Jay-Z talked about over after-dinner whiskeys, and daydreams of B and Gwinny picking out flip-flops in Tulum while giggling about each other's favorite colors distracted them all. Good times. Out of nowhere, a video for "Strawberry Swing" brings it all back, thanks to the inimitable direction of London-based Shynola. We know it's a couple days old but we wanted to wait for the embed here, provided by Babelgum.

And also, it should be noted that it is the first video for Shynola since the loss of Gideon Baws, one of its founders and a brilliant illustrator, who passed away late last year after contracting viral myocarditis at the age of 33. This video seems a fitting tribute to Baws and his family, and if you look closely during the opening seconds, you can see a portrait of Baws hanging on the wall next to Martin's illustrated bed.
