Stylee Fridays: Oliver Spencer 2010

December 11, 2009

Oliver Spencer was in town from London a few weeks ago with his latest collection of menswear, and gave us a personal walk-through of the line. The British designer is a self-taught tailor, and all his creative instincts are completely spot-on—the clothes have an easy lightness to them, without losing any of the rigorous tailoring. Spencer's spring collection is inspired by Roman Holiday, a classic romantic comedy where Audrey hepburn plays a princess from an unknown country alongside the very dashing Gregory Peck. Spencer really focussed on brightening his palette for spring, and the saturated primary colors and clean lines all recall a '60s summer vacay, especially one which involves riding around Rome on a moped with Gregory Peck (Peck wears a light blue suit and burgundy tie of course). It's the kind of wardobe we'll be craving come the spring, after months of scuttling around in varying shades of winter grey. The shoes are what Spencer calls "man wedges," awesomely solid and fun footwear that's the collection's crowning glory.
