Vampire Weekend Returns to Form on Saturday Night Live

March 08, 2010

For all you lovers of OG Vampire Weekend out there (Blue CDR and "Ladies of Cambridge"—holler!), you'll be happy to see Rostam totally shredding on both "Giving Up the Gun" and "Cousins" (which you can see after the jump). He's all, "NBD I am guitar virtuoso." Check the echo-ska explosion at around 2:00 of "Giving Up the Gun." "A-Punk" 4ever! Are you reminded of the good old days when Vampire Weekend played a Columbia freshman welcome party on the steps that were also featured in Hannah and Her Sisters? Because we are! Warm sigh! Those of you keen to point out that the Discovery-maven was always the band's keyboardist and this extra guitar bulk up is actually in no way a return to form at all, well, you can shush. And those of you who want to say there is a synthesizer being played somewhere on "Giving Up the Gun," well, sounds like there is. But we can't see it. Maybe it's behind the cello player that they stole from Juliiard. Ah, classical elitism proking out. Quick, someone fan out the flames in my heart with the New Yorker!
