Grass Widow, “Shadow” MP3

June 22, 2010

Because, well, we are nerds, we've spent a bunch of time thinking about what it means that Grass Widow has signed to Kill Rock Stars for the release of their new album Past Time. KRS is legendary for releasing one era of Grass Widow's all (or, at least, heavily) female punk rock, tom drum heavy groups—Bikini Kill, Frumpies, Erase Errata, Huggy Bear, Sleater-Kinney, Bratmobile... Grass Widow's carrying the baton, it seems. So is that a step into the future or one into the past? Both? Neither? Or are we too concerned with semantics are framing history? Probably that. Ok, we're gonna unfurl our brain and tell you that regardless of era, label or sex, Grass Widow is a sweet band and "Shadow" is a great track, three cylinders firing at once, a workout for all instruments, three voices, harmony, melody, rhythm all blended into something between punk and pop. It's something that belongs on Kill Rock Stars. It's good everyone's met their match.
