ABN (Trae Tha Truth & Z-Ro), “RIP” MP3

January 18, 2011

The last Assholes By Nature album came out three years ago, which seems unbelievable given how often we still pencil-draw to it on the L train. At first glance, “R.I.P.” reads as “Miss My Dawgs" (Mourning, Part 2), but the real message here is friendship affirmation. Trae Tha Truth opens things ad-lib, never the man to conceal emotion: “One day they could be here, one day they could be gone. It’s always real to recognize your partners when they still living.” Later on, Z-Ro coins Daddy and Daughter Day. God bless them both. “When I rest in peace I’ll hook back up with ya…” Did these two ever not do a sad song together? Rawest cousin rappers alive.
