Video: Boxcutter, “TV Troubles”

January 24, 2011

On "TV Troubles," Boxcutter sounds oceans away from the skittish Northern Ireland semi-dustup he’s released on Planet Mu and Hotflush over the years, more LA funk than Lurghan/Armagh. It's a short track, 30 seconds of pre-bass and two minutes of imaginary convertible slaps, drawing sonic and visual cues from worlds far beyond garage. The video’s a beautiful gamma-trip, pastel puddles leaking from a funhouse-mirrored topless stargazer, ideal acid. Sometimes the guitar starts to slip into a wormhole, like he's powering off an old radio, only to bounce right back, a little weirder than before.
