Video: DJ Quik & Suga Free, “Nobody”

June 07, 2011

It seems like every internet rap video is bogged down with a meaningless extended intro full of tedious dialogue, unintelligible plotlines and bad acting. Suga Free knows better than to waste a playa's time. For "Nobody," he keeps the intro short with just one sweet bit of wisdom: You know when you bite into a chicken and you see that long vein? Sometimes you be so hungry you eat it anyway. It could be a metaphor for many things in life, it could also just be a non-sequitur about chicken. Before you have a chance to figure it out, it's shifted into an appropriately breezy clip for the summertime loner rap jam "Nobody," from DJ Quik's masterful The Book Of David. Rumor has it that the duo has fully rekindled their on-again, off-again relationship and are aiming to release an album before the end of the year. You may not realize it yet, but this is the best news you've heard all day. Suga's Quik produced 1996 outing Street Gospel is quite possibly the greatest pimp rap album of all time and the too long delayed follow up, 2004's The New Testament was simply slept on.
