"Letter To My Son" first saw life as one of the many raw and jaw dropping live-from-the-vocal-booth (or closet) YouTube efforts that Memphis rapper Don Trip dropped last year. Now, presumably as both a Father's Day gesture and a product of his recent signing to Cool & Dre's Interscope-backed Epedemic imprint, "Letter" has been given a second treatment. This take repurposes and reenacts parts of the original video, giving it an awkward feel (think of shoehorning a shower symphony into the already perfectly based "Why Must I Cry"). Sometimes professionalism can detract from a show of raw honesty, but if it's what it takes to give Don's most intimate record a few more spins, then so be it.
