Yesterday, Beyonce showed up at at East Harlem's Target to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the store's existence. Some kids (and a grip of their moms and/or Target employees) were set up, performing a dance routine to "Countdown," the best track on her just-released album 4. What you notice a minute into the video, when Beyonce steps onstage, is a gigantic leap in the kids' focus, enthusiasm and flyness. Every snap gets harder, arms stretch further, shoulders pop and spring back cleaner. Everyone's got their Colgate smile out. Is this how we get America's kids to do okay in school? Stick Beyonce in the back of the class and blast a song written by The-Dream and Ester Dean? Just saying, it would work.
