Video: Uptown XO, “Black America”

August 11, 2011

Direct from Capitol Hill, DC lyricist XO (now Uptown XO, but we're going to keep calling him XO because that other guy isn't as good at rapping) takes the government to task for the state of his city and the nation writ large. It's his most explicitly message driven track to date, addressing gentrification, segregation and the crack epidemic. The track's interspersed with clips from New Jack City but AB The Pro's production is more Scarface with its cascading Morodorian synths. The charge of the politics is a potent offset to the chillwave beat. XO's Monumental II drops on August 30th.
