Earlier this year Oliver Sabin, bka Unicorn Kid, abandoned his iconic stuffed lion hat, a child's symbol of the chiptune style he'd been perfecting since he was 15, in favor of an early rave-revitalizing pastel bowl cut with a yin-yang cut in the back. The aesthetic turn was synthesized by this summer's sugary, happy hardcore-influenced Tidal Rave EP, a figuring of teen internet culture that's both his poppiest and most progressive work to date. An album is planned for next year, and in the meantime he's releasing remixes like this glowing "ecstasy dream" reworking of Pictureplane. This week Sabin turned 20. That's like nothing. He's going to learn about every kind of music online and he's going to master them indomitably. Do you think Katy Perry reads this blog? She needs a new producer, and probably this should be her new thing.
