Video: Masayoshi Fujita, “Story of Forest”

Flau, the little Tokyo label with an unparalleled ear for peaceful sounds (and an incredible FADER mix), will release Berlin-based Masayoshi Fujita's new album of vibraphone compositions, Stories, on January 21st. Guided by the instrument Fujita has made his own, "Story of Forest" at first sounds like the load screen of a meditative video game, just bouncy notes like they were floating in a pond, then gradually adds strings to find structure and narrative. It's so, so pretty. Fitting of the composer's spare approach, the video also takes a simple concept and makes it cool. For more, check out Flau's recent remaster of Fujita's debut album, recorded under the alias El Fog.
