When we met up with polarizing crooner Tim Vocals at the Harlem apartment of a friend, he was starting his day off with a viewing of Sugar Hill, a 1993 film set in the same neighborhood about a reclusive drug kingpin trying to get out of the game. The film holds up well to this day, but in terms of a career parallel, Vocals is on the opposite end of the totem, just getting his beak wet and ready to make his splash. Refusing to coast off the reception of Live From Harlem, two weeks ago he dropped Everything x 2, a collaboration with Harlem rapper Nino Man. Just before the release of Everything x 2 though, Vocals invited FADER TV uptown to talk about coming up in Harlem, his love for marijuana and to perform an animated rendition of Frank Ocean's, "Nocavane."
