On New Years Eve in Philadelphia, Avery Rosewater will play with The War on Drugs and Purling Hiss, two Philly bands that specialize in sculpting huge, scuzzed out rock songs while teasing out emotional moments from the heart of a burnout. It's not exactly slacker rock, but it's not far off either. In "Havana," there's a sort of half-asleep aura to the whole track, so when the guitars rise out of the organ murk for a simple but pretty guitar solo, it feels like gasping for a breath of fresh air, and then going back under. The best way to describe music like this is "cavernous." It'll put some meat on your bones too.
