Detroit's Boldy James is great at dead-eyed minimalism, able to convey a lot in just a few words and a flat, sing-song flow that's reminiscent of 50 Cent. The Grand Quarters EP is mostly produced by Chuck Inglish, who provides a stark, almost inhuman backdrop, with bassy laser zaps ping-ponging through digital space. After this, James will move on to do an entire collaborative LP with Alchemist, which seems like a pretty great fit. Grand Quarters is out right now on Decon, and you can get it here.
