Stream: Pharmakon, “Crawling on Bruised Knees”

March 29, 2013

According to a recent interview with Pitchfork, Pharmakon's Margaret Chardiet decided to put maggots on the cover of her Sacred Bones LP after opening an old love letter and finding a dried flower inside that was completely infested with them. "Crawling on Bruised Knees," the first single from the record, is just as scary and arresting as you can imagine that discovery to have been, from its infinitely booming bass drum to a descending bass groan that approximates the sound of a plane flying past your ear repeatedly. Finally, there's the 22-year-old Brooklyn musician's effects-frankensteined scream-song, which might make you back away with your tail between your legs if it weren't so engrossing. Abandon is out on May 14th.
