Stream: Chelsea Wolfe, “Fight Like Gods”

In the first few bars of "Fight LIke Gods," there's a certain melodic turn in Chelsea Wolfe's voice that reminds me a lot of This Mortal Coil's "The Siren Song," an ethereal Jim Buckley cover that inspired David Lynch to commission the Blue Velvet anthem "Mysteries of Love," and is hands down one of the most haunting and beautiful pop anthems I've ever heard. The reverbey cast on Wolfe's alto is actually not that far off from Elizabeth Frasier's voice on that song either, and "Fight Like Gods" has a similar, free-floating quality, only the lack of melodic resolution really gets under your skin, in more of a bleak way than an uplifting way. The track is one side of her new split 7" with King Dude that Sargent House put out this weekend for Record Store Day.
