Raul de Nieves’ Twisty, Turny Rosary Necklaces

July 25, 2013

Raul de Nieves is an artist based in Brooklyn who has a penchant for wrapping, piling, twisting and turning materials on top of materials (check out these insane shoes made of beaded butterflies for a perfect example) until the finished product is some kind of weighty baroque votive that's as one-of-a-kind as an item can be. For his line of jewelry now for sale on Maryam Nassir Zadeh's online shop, he's taken that aesthetic and made it beautifully wearable, starting, for example, with the classic Catholic rosary necklace worn by so many millions of people and braiding in pieces of turquoise and little gold emblems everywhere so that it looks a relic sunken under Little Mermaid seas and overgrown with coral. Check out a closer look below and a few other of his items, and head over to MNZ to pick one up.
