Stream: Kajsa, “Try Try Again”

On September 17th, Still Music will release a double vinyl compilation of rareties and remastered singles from Sunset Records Inc., the early house music label founded by Chicago tastemakers Matt Warren, Miguel Garcia and Ralphi Rosario in 1985, as a subsidiary of Sunset Mobile Disco. As a testament to the familial nature of the imprint, many of the tracks on Kill Yourself Dancing feature musical contributions from Warren and Rosario themselves. "Try Try Again," however, is a propulsive, piano-dappled track from Kajsa, a beats and vocals duo consisting of Elk Grove Village, Illinois native Scott Free and his sister, who I assume is the one belting it isn't too late over the titular chorus. Most notably, it was performed during a support slot for Hot Mix 5 at Riviera on February 12, 1987, which is the kind of obscure factoid about that chapter in dance music history that you can read about in the comprehensive, 23-page booklet that accompanies this Jerome Derradji-curated release.
