Stream: Modern Mechanical Music, “Pleasure Dome”

August 19, 2013

Last week, we posted a track from Kill Yourself Dancing, a compilation revisiting early Chicago house music label and Sunset Mobile Disco offshoot Sunset Records Inc. After co-founding the tastemaking imprint with Miguel Garcia and Ralphi Rosario in 1985, beatsmith Matt Warren left to start his own label, AKA Dance Music, in 1987. Like many of the cuts on Bang The Box, a Jerome Derradji-curated companion collection that takes AKA as its focus, "Pleasure Dome" showcases the production chops of Warren himself. This time, though, he's working under his own Modern Mechanical Music alias, merging smarmy shout-outs to the sexual act with a nasty, barely tonal, industrial synth motif that's got urban dystopia written all over it. Bang The Box is out October 15th via Still Music.
