Stream: Quilt, “Arctic Shark”

Listen to “Arctic Shark,” a song from Quilt’s upcoming Mexican Summer full-length, Held In Splendor.

Update 11/6/13: Now there's a new, fruit-and-veggie-filled video shot and edited by Merideth Hillbrand and Brandon Andrew, too. The album is up for preorder now.

Since its slept-on debut cassette appeared in 2009, sounding like a dusted-off artifact from a trippier time, Boston trio Quilt has been making reliably great folk songs, borrowing from junkyard blues and '60s psychedelia while still sounding like its own thing. The band's latest, "Arctic Shark," continues that particular magic with a slightly richer-sounding palette. I don't know exactly what the "arctic shark" represents here, but when Anna Fox Rochinski sings, Everything will regenerate as love, it makes just the right amount of sense. The song is off Quilt's sophomore full-length, Held In Splendor, which was produced by Woods' Jarvis Taveniere and drops early next year on Mexican Summer. This weekend, the band will play that label's five-year anniversary festival in Brooklyn along with Ariel Pink, The Fresh and Onlys, Happy Jawbone Family Band and lots of others.
