Since Rihanna Won’t Be There, Here Are 7 Soca Songs for Crop Over

We’re bummed about it but ready to wine anyway.

August 01, 2014

Well guys, we've been stalking her Twitter and scanning her BFF Melissa Forde's Instagram, and we're bummed to break it to you, but it looks like Rihanna won't be making it to Crop Over this weekend. Year after year, the Kadooment Day parade, which traditionally marks the end of harvest season, has been a source of dancing, drinking and revelry for the pride and joy of Barbados. In between rehearsals for the Monster Tour with Eminem, recording for the as-yet-untitled #R8 album and tweeting prayer requests, seems like RihRih couldn't carve out enough time to head home for the annual carnival festivities. In an attempt to keep us from sulking around this weekend— what with no pictures of RihRih in full costume to fill our Instagram timeline—we've pulled together seven of the top Crop Over soca songs, born and bred in Barbados, that will riling up the masses and causing waistlines to roll in RihRih's hometown. Happy Wining Season!

Verseewild & Marzville, "Dolla Drop"

Lil Rick, "Thank God For Life"

Hypasounds, "Dutti"

Lefty f. The Unkown, "Don't Drop The Rum"

Sqwingie Mafia, "Full Up of Quality"

Kerwin Dubois & King Bubba f. Jah Cure, Lil Rick, "Partyak"

Lead Pipe & Saddis, "Ah Feeling"

SEE YOU NEXT YEAR, RIH RIH!
