Listen to the New Track From Ethiopian Producer Mikael Seifu, Feel Inspired

The Addis Ababa musician returns with a heart-skipping new single.

September 02, 2014

Back in April, we posted a track from a little-known Ethiopian producer named Mikael Seifu, combining delicate, atmospheric electronics with some of the most heart-skipping melismatic melodies we've heard in this neck of the world since Ethiopiques. We didn't know much about him, but a Fact Magazine article about his experiences bridging the music traditions of his native Addis Ababa with a stint studying music production at a small New Jersey liberal arts college came out in the interim, along with his debut EP, Yarada Lij, on mysteriously named new DC label 1432 R. On September 23rd, 1432 R will be releasing a split single between Seifu and another artist called Dawit (pre-order it here). Here's the Seifu track, co-starring some pretty stunning Ethiopian-language vocals and some serious string shredding.
