Celebrate Late Nights With Mark McGuire’s “Noctilucence” Video

The ex-Emeralds guitarist returns with a new song and self-directed video.

There's no obvious narrative in the video for "Noctilucence," the new song from ex-Emeralds guitarist and experimental solo musician Mark McGuire. The clip is all highway headlights and rain-soaked fluorescents, but it's a fittingly open-ended visual for the his experimentally minded guitar-and-synth constructions. As McGuire explains, both the new song and video pay tribute to the romance of life after dark. "Noctilucence is about things becoming vibrant at night, the electricity of the inner life, and listening when you're the only ears for miles and miles," McGuire—who directed the video himself—told us over email. "There's something that seems to come to life in twilight, and my nights have always felt shrouded with ideas and expression." The song is the title track from his Noctilucence EP, out November 11th on Dead Oceans.
