Royce Wood Junior’s New Tune Will Have You Dancing Until “Midnight”

Listen to the UK talent’s soulful new tune.

UK vocalist/producer/songwriter Royce Wood Junior did a stint in Jamie Woon's band, and now he's stepping out on his own with his debut LP The Ashen Tang, which is set for release on May 11 via 37 Adventures. Similar to the dusky vibes of Woon's music, "Midnight" has a nocturnal melancholia to it, with a skipping beat and Royce Wood Junior's soulful vocals. "I wrote and produced 'Midnight' in a day, during a period of incessant personal failure," he told FADER in an email. "It's about being able to laugh at your own stupidity and operate under the presumption that you can do it better tomorrow. I wanted it to be a classic up tempo soul tune but it ended up with a slightly modern bop to it, and if you listen carefully, you can hear the sound of a fish tank bubbling on the opening chords. It was situated directly next to the piano that I recorded for the song and of course both of these objects are notoriously difficult to move so I just had to accept the bubbles.
