New Zealand art-R&B aesthete Thomston's new EP, Backbone, drops April 20, and this smooth, gently blooming tune from it is a perfect introduction to this intriguing artist, who seems to enjoy playing around with darkly-shaded pop the same way that his fellow countrywoman Lorde does. "This song is my last summer," Thomston explained to FADER in an email. "It's about a friend in a rough place, and feeling completely out of your depths, not knowing how to help. It's about wanting to live in a state of blissful ignorance. She's okay now, though."
