This Song Is For Anyone Who Has Ever Fallen For The Wrong Person

London singer-songwriter Elle has a moment on “Roses.”

February 24, 2015

She could give you 12 thousand roses, like I did, repeats London singer/songwriter Elle on "Roses," a lonesome sliver of a song that rolls hi-hats over quietly bubbling tones like dice across a table. In this simple yet striking video by House of Alt, Elle sings from beneath a rose crown and, at one point, begins chewing the petals off one stem with a vampiric look in her eye (that'll be the contact lenses). It's all over in a flash, but the hurt yet proud tone in Elle's voice lingers in the memory.

"For me 'Roses' is about feelings that aren't reciprocated," Elle told The FADER. "To give someone something really precious and beautiful and not get anything back. Everyone has fallen for the wrong person, at least once. This song expresses the sadness that can come from that." Blvck & White will release Elle's EP, Carousels & Hurricanes, on March 1st.
