In a conversation with with The Sunday Times, Miguel opened up about his less-than-chummy relationship with fellow R&B singer Frank Ocean. “I wouldn’t say we were friends,” Miguel said, before cutting the rift deeper: “To be completely honest—and no disrespect to anyone—I genuinely believe that I make better music, all the way around.”

“We’ll see who’s in it for the long haul,” he added. “It’s like a marathon, you know?”

Miguel and Ocean go way back: speaking with FADER before the release of his second album, Kaleidoscope Dream, Miguel noted that he and Ocean used to be close. Aside from that, he refused to talk about their history on the record. Both singers encountered success around the same time, and they have been plagued by mostly nonsensical comparisons to each other ever since.
