Chinah Explore Minimalist R&B On “Away From Me”

A promising debut from the Danish trio.

July 07, 2015

Chinah, a three-piece from Copenhagen, Denmark, work in the fertile space somewhere between electronic music and pillow-soft R&B. Their debut track, “Away From Me,” revolves around restrained drum programming and a smooth, breathy vocal. Wobbly synthesizers flicker across the surface of the song without disturbing the mood.

“Away From Me was written in the early spring of 2014,” Chinah told The FADER. “It was the first song from our EP, and it really made us find the sound we’ve been confident about for the rest of the EP.” They add: “We wanted to cut the song to the core with as few layers as possible.” To achieve this, the group “started the whole song with a sine-wave from a synthesizer.”

Listen below, and look for the rest of their 5-track EP soon.
