Ice Cube Claims Dr. Dre Will Release “A Dope Record” On August 1

The project is “inspired by Compton.”

July 29, 2015

Dr. Dre has not released a solo album since 1999. But in a promotional interview for the N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton, Ice Cube suggested that might change. When a radio host asked if there would be any new music on the film’s soundtrack, Cube replied, “Actually Dre’s dropping an inspired album—inspired by Compton. He’s dropping something on August 1. It’s mega, you know, it’s Dr. Dre, it’s what everybody been waiting for. It’s definitely a dope record, and he dropping it all on the same day. It’s crazy.”

Listen around the 10-minute mark; that’s the only information Cube revealed. Presumably if the album does come out, it will be an Apple exclusive.
