Listen To The Debut Song By Laced, Dustin From Beach Fossils’ New Band

Mac DeMarco recorded “Clear” at his house in the Rockaways.

Laced is the new project featuring Dustin Payseur from Beach Fossils, Ryan Naideau from Warthog and Nude Beach, and Couple Skate Records co-founder Ian Judd. This fall, the trio will release a debut self-titled EP via Bayonet Records, the label Payseur started with his wife at the end of 2014. Mac DeMarco actually helped record the songs at his newly acquired bungalow by the beach. Today we're debuting "Clear," a track from the EP that Judd (who wrote the lyrics) told FADER is about "literally reaching for a level of absolute clarity."

Although there are a few evocative guitar moments that sound like they might've been used in a Beach Fossils song someday, "Clear" pulls more from hardcore punk than indie pop: the edges are scuffed and warped and weird, as if there's a sinister post-punk shadow hovering over the whole thing. "The very first time we got into a space together, this song came out immediately," Payseur told FADER in an email. "It set the initial sonic tone for Laced without us ever talking about what the band was supposed to be. It was refreshing to have the song come out so naturally." Laced is out October 30th, and the band plays Bayonet's CMJ showcase a couple weeks before that; full lineup below.
