mAsis Make A Break-Up Sound Soft And Peaceful On “Virginia Wolf”

Listen to a new single from the Glendale, California band.

It takes a certain kind of skill to make a break-up song sound soft and peaceful, but the trio behind mAsis somehow manage to take the aftermath of a love gone wrong and render it oddly soothing. The lush production and layered vocals give way to filtered synths, striking up a similar vibe to the likes of Rhye and Banks, whom the band count as past collaborators. When you hear the elastic plea, Please let me go, it's not hard to imagine a past lover holding on.

"The song is about how walking away from someone becomes a lot harder when you have to carry their shit on the way out. Leaving someone really doesn't mean that they've left you," mAsis told The FADER over email. Listen to the track below, and consider the band's wise words.
