Listen To Florentino’s Bittersweet, Bachata-Sampling “Perdido”

It’s “a song about mistrust, heartbreak, and feeling lost as a consequence.”

October 22, 2015

U.K. collective/label/club night Swing Ting know a good thing when they hear it. Following this summer's dancehall-spiked Madd Again! releases comes new signing Florentino, a Manchester-based producer of Colombian heritage. "Perdido" is taken from his debut EP, Tu y Yo, and it weaves an almost painfully sweet distorted vocal—sampled from a bachata record—and ring-tone gurgles through a reggaeton-rinsed rhythm to irresistible effect.

It's "a song about mistrust, heartbreak, and feeling lost as a consequence," Florentino told The FADER. "I think the bachata vocal flipped here does well to convey that in partnership with the energy of the instrumental. Written last year, this is definitely one of the more personal cuts on the record." Swing Ting will release Florentino's Tu y Yo EP on November 13th (pre-order it here).
