"Guitar" is produced by Mano, the same man behind The Weeknd's No. 1 hit "The Hills." Mano helps HXLT find the sweet spot between rock—plenty of riffs, driving post-punk basslines—and the modern drum programming you find in hip-hop. Initially, the lyrics seem beamed in from a '90s indie band: Who am I to make a statement? No one knows me, I've done nothing great. But this isn't a track about staying hidden in the shadows. I wish that I could play a guitar, HXLT sings. And write all the songs that make me rich/ Use it all to save the kids.
HXLT is signed to Kanye's label, G.O.O.D. Music. Watch the Nigel Holt-directed clip above.
