A Japanese Producer Remade Kanye West’s The Life Of Pablo Without Hearing It

Since he couldn’t legally stream it from Japan, TOYOMU made his own version.

Before Kanye West's The Life Of Pablo was made available for purchase, the album was a Tidal exclusive. The streaming service is not available in all countries, including Japan, where producer and Quantizer Kyoto head TOYOMU resides. He boldly decided, rather than wait or pirate the record, to make his own version of the album using a list of samples from WhoSampled and lyrics from Genius. The completed album is called 印象III : なんとなく、パブロ (Imagining "The Life of Pablo") and you can hear it below.

According to an interview with the producer on Pigeons & Planes, Tokyo is behind in the streaming game. “Subscription services in Japan are too slow, most people are still using iTunes and buying CDs.” Incredibly, TOYOMU hasn't heard the original Life Of Pablo yet, even though it's streaming in Tokyo on Apple Music. “I haven’t listened yet, this is no reason and meanings,” he says. “It’s just a kind of feeling.”
