Grimes showed up on Zane Lowe's Beats 1 show today to air a 40 minute mix she made titled Underground Sounds. The compilation included a new track from Aristophanes, who collaborated with Grimes on "Scream," an Art Angels cut.
"I feel like it's rare in this day and age that you just hear an artist and you've never heard anything like it," Grimes explained to Lowe. "The first time I heard [Aristophanes's] music, I was like I've never heard anything like this, but I always felt something like this should exist. I don't speak Mandarin, but she's such a technically proficient vocalist. So fast, no breaths, when I got her stems for the song I did with her, it was just like three takes—one main take and then the overdubs. I was like, holy crap… she just did it."
Aristophanes's new track happens to be produced by Arcade Fire's Will Butler. Listen below.
