Vinyl Williams Returns From Another Dimension With “Riddles Of The Sphinx”

His third album Brunei is coming out on Chaz Bu’dick's Company Records.

June 27, 2016

Vinyl Williams is the longstanding psychedelic project of Lionel Williams, and he's preparing to release Brunei, his second album for Chaz Bundick of Toro Y Moi's Company Records. "Riddles Of The Sphinx," the first single, is a vibrant tracer that spirals gently to a krautrock pulse, and blossoms into glowing kaleidoscopic explosions. Such prettiness is only heightened when you consider the limitations that inspired the song, which Williams described to The FADER over email: 'Riddles of the Sphinx' is an agnostic plea about humanity's flaws of knowing. Nothing can be known fully from all angles. Knowledge seems as impermanent as life itself. A few lyrical lines point to 'The Cloud of Unknowing,' the anonymous medieval poem that accepts the inability of human understanding when contemplating the divine."

Brunei is out August 26, but to listen to songs two months before they're released, go hunt for them on the album's website.
