The protestor in the photo which went viral following a Black Lives Matter protest in Baton Rouge says she is a "vessel from God." The woman in Jonathan Bachman's image has been identified as Ieshia Evans, a 28 year old from New York. She traveled to Baton Rouge following the killing of Alton Sterling, her friend Natsha Haynes told the Daily Mail. The friend added that Evans, who works as a nurse, wants a better future for her 5 year old son.
Mashable reports that Evans posted a brief statement on Facebook after the Daily Mail article was published. "I just need you people to know. I appreciate the well wishes and love, but this is the work of God," she reportedly wrote. "I am a vessel! Glory to the most high! I'm glad I'm alive and safe. And that there were no casualties that I have witnessed first hand." Evans was arrested on Saturday, July 9, and released the following day.
