GHE20G0TH1K Opens New York City Store

PLANET X picks up where old-school NYC left off.

August 05, 2016

GHE20G0TH1K has been back from the dead for a while now, but the best "faggots and friends" dance party in NYC is expanding further into the sartorial realm with a new pop-up shop called PLANET X.

The aesthetic and idea for the shop, which opens tonight, came from producer Venus X's NYC upbringing, and immersion in the fashion culture created by Pat Fields and Trash & Vaudeville, Kim's Video, ANewYorkThing and Vampire Freaks. Over email with The FADER, Venus explained, "I've watched pretty much all of those stores close in the last few years because of real estate development/inflation, lack of creative direction and maybe for some the time just came to turn down the lights."

The new PLANET X shop also draws inspiration from the producer's time in Japan's Harajuku and Shibuya neighborhoods, where stores have a dense, concentrated approach to stock. Venus X and the GHE20G0TH1K team "built the store by hand, hand picked every item in it, the pieces range from $10-$1000 and have come from cities all over the world," she said.

The store will carry GHE20G0TH1K's first-ever merch line and DIMINISH, a streetwear brand from Shanghai. There will also be merchandise from ancillary NYC institutions like Know Wave and NON available, alongside one-off collabs with designers and artists. "Every week we plan on adding new merchandise," Venus X writes,"so you'll have to come through to check out the new inventory!

Planet X is located at 448 Jefferson Street #29 in Brooklyn. It is open Monday-Thursday by appointment only, Friday 1-8pm, Saturday 1-8pm, and Sunday 1-7pm. Preview the clothes they'll carry below.
