Maal & Morris Share A Paranoid View Of California In “Church / I’m Gone”

Experience “goombawave” in a lovely new double video.

Good Morning, I Love You by LA's Maal & Morris is "goombawave" — a raw and psychedelic slurry of field recordings, classic samples, and otherworldly autotune, that marches to its own rhythm. It's 21st century blues. Two sparse album cuts, "Church" and "I'm Gone," get stripped down even further for a fantastic double video, premiering on The FADER today. Vocalist Maal directs and stars as the emotional totem of the clip, which cuts between personal moments and a drone's hovering, omnipresent gaze over California.

P. Morris, who has produced for artists like Kelela, Feist, and Le1f, does not appear, but Maal told The FADER in an email that Morris was in his thoughts as he made the clip. "While creating the video I had a very small audience in mind — a few people back home. As an artist, I like to use my content to open the window a little further and let the viewer peer into a moment." Watch the video above and listen to Good Morning, I Love You below.
