DJ Lag is one of a cohort of producers in South Africa's Durban making gqom: a ruthless, minimalist, tensely percussive form of dance music. Over in London, the independent label Goon Club Allstars have been introducing the sound of gqom to U.K. clubs for a couple of years now, and their latest venture is to release DJ Lag's self-titled EP. With four tracks from across his massive back catalog, the release feels like a short, sharp blast of ice cold air on a dancefloor full of body heat.

"We were drawn to the atmosphere DJ Lag creates in his music through uncompromising percussion and ominous bass tones," Goon Club Allstars told The FADER in an email. "He definitely stood out among the mass of talent and creativity coming out of Durban." DJ Lag's EP is out today; listen exclusively below, and get it here.
