Chaz Bundick Meets The Mattson 2’s “Star Stuff” Video Is A Cosmic Bowling Odyssey

Their album Star Stuff is out March 31.

January 19, 2017

Bowling alleys can be run-down time capsules, but peel back the fading neon and look closer into the eyes of bowlers and staff and you might see cosmic secrets. That's the overwhelming vibe in "Star Stuff," the new music video from Chaz Bundick (a.k.a. Toro Y Moi) and The Mattson 2, as Chaz Bundick Meets The Mattson 2, premiering today on The FADER. It's directed by Harry Israelson, a frequent Toro Y Moi collaborator who helmed last year's concert film Live From Trona. In the clip, the three-piece resemble a collective dream as they perform the vaporous psyche-pop track in a hazy rose-colored room. Who's your favorite bowler? Mine has to be Shaft. You'll know him when you see him.

Jared Mattson described the song's creation in an email to The FADER. "The first time Chaz and The Mattson 2 jammed, the tape was rolling. One cut that day was based on a rough instrumental idea by The Mattson 2. Chaz reshaped the piece, and what happened next was pure architecture. With every bar that was shortened, every groove extended, or every instrument added, the piece became more and more complete. Chaz's vocals was the air that brought 'Star Stuff' to life!"

Star Stuff is out March 31 on Company Records. Preorder it here and check out the group's tour dates below.
