Kevin Gates is still in jail due to an outstanding weapons charge, but the rapper is determined to continue releasing music. Gates dropped his latest track, "What If," on Tuesday night.

The song's title riffs on Joan Osborne's 1995 song "What If God Was One Of Us."

"What if God is one of us/Just a thug like one of us," Gates sings in the song's opening. The song finds Gates in a melancholy and contemplative mood, which is understandable given his current legal situation.
