Ellen Allien’s Lustful New Video Is An Homage To Dating Apps And Berlin Clubbing

“Unreal-sexy and rough-minimal.”

Ellen Allien's new album Nost, out on her own label BPitch Control on May 12, takes its title from the root of "nostalgia." Fittingly, its chunky, crackling techno textures seem to cast an ear back to Allien's many years as a fixture of Berlin nightlife, while also looking ahead with futuristic melodies. "Call Me," and its video premiering above, is the record's most heated moment: with Ellen deadpanning "I want your sex" over an insistent beat, it feels like one long booty call.

"'Call Me’ is about Grindr and Tinder, the apps many people use to find sex, love, dates or friends," Ellen explained in an email to The FADER. "The video was done with Kieran Behan of Crystalmafia, and we filmed it in my home city of Berlin with a group of friends. We walked the streets at night to capture the special flirty and sexual atmosphere that is created in the city once the sun goes down, and to use this as a reflection of how people feel when they use Grindr and Tinder. Also to show how the city appears from our perspective, unreal-sexy and rough-minimal." Watch the video above and get the album here.
