German Music Festival Evacuated Over Terrorist Threat

Rock am Ring has been temporarily suspended.

Rock am Ring, a rock festival in Nürburg, Germany, was evacuated and closed for the day on Friday after police received information about a possible terrorist threat. The Guardian reports that police got "concrete indications" that made it so that they could not "exclude a possible bomb threat."

It's not clear how many people were evacuated from the festival, but upwards of 90,000 people were expected to attend by the end of the weekend. Festival goers were evacuated from the Nürburgring race track just before headliner Rammstein took the stage.

“As safety is paramount, and it is necessary to exclude a threat to festival visitors in any case as far as possible, it was decided to suspend the festival for this day,” police said.

This threat comes on the heels of the attack at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester last week that left 22 dead and over 100 injured.

In a statement given to Billboard, festival owner Live Nation said that they "hope that the festival will continue tomorrow."
