Back in 2013, TV On The Radio's Kyp Malone, Sean Kennerly of Samiam, Sean Powell of Surfbort, Giselle Reiber, Dan Scinta, and BA Maile formed an experimental band called Ice Balloons. Now, they've signed with Volar Records, a California label that will release their first full length, Fiesta, on August 11. Premiering today on The FADER is "The Wasp," a savage song about one of the creepiest creatures on earth: the parasitic wasp. Having witnessed parasitic wasps eat a caterpillar from the inside out myself, I can attest that the strange and beautiful violence of this phenomenon is paralleled in the track's shouts and fuzz.

“The song chronicles the development of parasitic wasp babies inside a caterpillar as they slowly eat its body away until they are large enough to emerge," Kennerly explained in an email to The FADER. "Two of the baby wasps, however, remain behind, sacrificing themselves by lodging in the wasp’s brain to turn it into a zombie that will hover over the newly emerged babies, guarding them from small predators with its last glimmers of life.” Listen below.
