Prince's estate Paisley Park has announced a Battle of the Bands competition. Check out the Facebook post above via Pitchfork. The competition is called Musicology, after Prince’s 2004 album, and will run from August 31 to September 3, 2017, at the pop icon's Chanhassen, Minnesota residence.
The competition is open to the public. Video submissions of acts can be sent here, and nine participants will be selected from the pool of entries. The deadline for submissions is July 30.
The winner will be selected from three finalists, and will receive "a unique Artist Development Award." This will include recording time at Paisley Park, a "mentorship session" with members of Prince's former band the New Power Generation, and “additional career development opportunities soon to be announced.”
Tickets for the event are available at the Paisley Park website, and cost $100 for a single day pass. Each ticket will include a tour of Paisley Park, and access to the Battle of the Bands as well as a dance party.
