TORRES is the alias of Brooklyn-based songwriter Mackenzie Scott. Her latest full-length, Three Futures, is set to be released this fall on 4AD. Today, TORRES is kicking off the album announcement with a video for its title track, debuting above.
On the song, Scott sings of bittersweet moments she shared with a long-gone flame, and the unfulfilled hopes she had before deciding to leave the relationship. "I hope that's what you'll remember/ Not how I left but how I entered," she sings, her intonation husky with nostalgia.
Directed by Ashley Connor , the official video is rendered with the repressed, vibrant sadness of a Todd Haynes melodrama. It follows a self-loathing housewife mundanely tidying up for a dismissive husband, before getting visited by someone else. The twist? Scott plays all three roles. Watch above.
Three Futures is out September 29 on 4AD.
