A tweet sent by Barack Obama following the far-right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia has become on the most popular tweets ever. The tweet, see above, is the most liked in the history of the social network with over 3m likes.
The tweet quotes the late South African president Nelson Mandela and says: “No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin or his background or his religion.” The image of Obama attached to the tweet was taken after his daughter Sasha’s fourth-grade graduation.
Obama went on to quote further from Mandela's Long Walk to Freedom in a subsequent post. “People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love. For love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.” Both tweets have also picked up over a million likes each.
The most liked tweet prior to Obama's latest belonged to Ariana Grande's whose message after a terror attack at her concert in Manchester earlier this year was liked 2.7m times.
