Jennifer Lopez has donated $1 Million to aid the victims of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. Lopez made the announcement after arriving in the country on Sunday, September 24. The money will come directly via her shows in Las Vegas where she has a residency.
Lopez arrived in Puerto Rico from Las Vegas to join New York governor Andrew Cuomo at a press conference, where she announced the donation and further plans to provide aid. Lopez is working alongside her partner, former baseball player Alex Rodriguez, in helping raise pledges to help the country. With Rodriguez's help donations have already come from New York Yankees and Major League Baseball.
"What's foremost in my mind and many others, is trying to figure out the best way to help," Lopez said in a statement. "Our island of Puerto Rico has been his by two of the most devastating hurricanes we've ever seen: Irma and Maria. Today, Puerto Rico needs our help. I urge you to support and donate to the efforts of the first lady of Puerto Rico, Beatriz Rossello."
Lopez also said she is working with Mark Cuban and Dallas Mavericks Puerto Rican player J.J. Barea, who have two airplanes full of food and electricity generators for the islanders.
